Santigold addresses 'Southerngold' Mixtape Controversy

Terry Urban recently put together a mix called Southerngold, which he describes as “mixing my favorite Southern rap vocals over remixed samples of my favorite Santigold influenced samples and tracks.” He intended to post the mix for free on the internet. But earlier this week on the Press Play Show blog, Urban announced that Downtown Music, Santigold’s label, hit him with a cease-and-desist letter just as he was uploading it to YouSendIt (via Idolator).

Santigold responded with a statement to Pitchfork: “Some kid just hit me up about this on MySpace. It was the first I ever heard about it. I’ve never heard anything about this DJ or this remix, and certainly did not send a cease and desist letter. I’m a supporter of mixtape culture and intend to get to the bottom of it.”
